A Perfect Wedding

"You want me to what?" Louis actually pulled the phone back from his ear and stared at it, as if Kyle would see his expression through the phone line.

"I want you to be my best man, Lou. I want Avery there, too. Do you think he'll be an witness for me?"

"Sure." Louis blinked a little, laughed a bit. "Last I checked, though, gay marriage wasn't legal in South Carolina."

Not that he'd checked, really. Avery kept up with the whole gay activism thing enough for both of them. Louis just worked hard, and ten years on since he and Avery had gotten back together, he still picked up his towels off the floor.

"That's why I'm going to California, Lou."

"Cali... You'll be miserable there, honey."

Avery came into the kitchen, all fresh from the shower, a towel around his waist and his blond hair all slicked back. It was a good look for him, with his whiskey eyes and his sharp bones. Edible.

"...live there."

"Huh?" Shit, what had he missed?

"I said I'm not going to live there. I'm just going to marry Roy."

Avery raised a brow and pointed to the phone. Louis mouthed, "Kyle".

"Does Roy know this?" Louis liked the latest in Kyle's long string of guys. He was a solid man, and he'd been around for two years, which was some kind of record. Roy just didn't seem like the tuxedo and flowers type. More flannel than fondue.

"Well, of course he does, you fool. He asked me."

"Huh. Well, when is it?" Louis knew he'd try to get the time off. Kyle was a great friend, even if he was still too darned young and enthusiastic.

Kyle gave him all the details, and Louis waved frantically at Avery to give him a pen so he could write it all down on a paper plate. "Okay, honey. I'll call as soon as we know... okay. Bye."

Avery still had that one brow raised, and he looked at Louis' paper plate, which still had crumbs from toast on it, as well as all of Kyle information.

"Your note-taking never ceases to amaze me, Lou."

"Don't you start on me, Ave. Guess what?"

Avery moved closer, staring down at his chicken scratch. "We're going to Disneyland?"

"We are if we can get the time off. Kyle and Roy are getting married."

"No kidding?"

"No kidding." Louis slid a hand around Avery's waist, fingers toying with the towel.

"Well, who would have guessed? He wants you to stand up with him, doesn't he?"

"He does." Suddenly that made Louis incredibly proud, that Kyle considered him a best friend, someone Kyle would want right there on the most important day of his life. "He wants you there, too."

Avery smiled, the lines around his eyes deeper now, around his mouth. That was a good look for him, too. "I wouldn't miss it."

Louis leaned against Avery's side, feeling warm, damp skin against his face, happy as a pig in shit. "Yeah, babe. I wouldn't miss it, either."
